“Korean Fermentation Culinary Competition 2026”
: Transforming Timeless Flavors into World-Class Dishes
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand is preparing its annual Korean cooking competition, “Korean Fermentation Culinary Competition: Time in a Jar – Thailand 2026,” to celebrate “UN designated Sustainable Gastronomy Day,” observed annually on June 18.
This competition focuses on showcasing the charm of “Korean fermentation” foods such as kimchi, fermented sauces, pickles, and fermented seafood, which are central to sustainability and food preservation in Korean culinary culture. Contestants will have the opportunity to creatively develop new menus by combining Korean fermented ingredients with the unique characteristics of Thai cuisine, promoting the sustainable growth of K-Food in Thailand.
The details are as follows:
Qualifications
1. Open to all genders and professions (applicants must be Thai nationals only)
2. Applicants must be aged between 18–50 years on the competition date
3. Participation is open to individuals or teams (maximum 2 persons per team)
Competition Highlights
o Online Qualifying Round: Under the theme “Kimchi Beyond Borders,” contestants will be selected to present kimchi in innovative ways through 90-second video clips. Ten teams will be chosen from applicants nationwide.
o Final Round: A live competition at the Cooking Studio, Kasetsart University, under the theme “Time in a Jar: Korean Fermentation Cuisine.” Contestants will create dishes using Korean fermented sauces, reflecting traditional or fusion styles through creative and harmonious ideas, vying for the title of best in taste and presentation.
Additional Activities
o “Flavors of Korea: Traditional K-Food Experience”: A food tasting event introducing local Korean ingredients, offering a new experience for food lovers.
Schedule Details
o Online Qualifying Round Applications: May 1 - June 7, 2026
o Announcement of the Top 10 Teams: June 10th, 2026
o Final Competition: June 18th, 2026 at the Institute of Food Research and Development, Kasetsart University
