Emerging Trend: Companion Pet Robots Supporting
Emotional Care for the Elderly and Children

• Research indicates that companion pet robots are not merely high-tech gadgets, but effective non-pharmacological support tools with potential applications in healthcare settings.

• Clinical findings suggest that dementia patients who interact with companion pet robots may experience improved outcomes, including shorter hospital stays, more stable vital signs, and reduced fall risk.

• A study in Sweden found that Joy for All robotic cats helped children with autism better tolerate dental procedures by reducing anxiety and sensory sensitivity.

• The global companion pet robot market is projected to grow from USD 480 million in 2025 to USD 1.24 billion by 2035, with a CAGR of 10.9%.

Suan Yai House Co., Ltd., the first importer and distributor of Joy for All Companion Pets in Asia, highlights recent research and global trends in the use of companion pet robots as emotional support tools, particularly for elderly individuals and children.

Companion pet robots, designed to resemble real cats or dogs, are gaining rapid adoption due to their ability to reduce loneliness and promote positive emotional engagement—without the responsibilities associated with live animals, such as feeding, grooming, veterinary care, or daily exercise.

Strong Global Market Growth and Adoption

According to Spherical Insights, the global companion pet robot market was valued at USD 480 million in 2025 and is expected to reach USD 1.24 billion by 2035, growing at an annual rate of 10.9%. This growth is driven by an aging global population and increasing demand for low-maintenance emotional care solutions that help reduce the burden on families and healthcare systems.

Recent research continues to support the effectiveness of companion pet robots, particularly for elderly individuals with dementia and depression. Multiple studies confirm improvements in behavioral and psychological outcomes, including reductions in agitation, anxiety, and irritability in moderate to severe dementia patients.

A randomized clinical trial conducted at Sarasota Memorial Hospital (Florida, USA) between 2025–2026 involving elderly patients with mild to moderate dementia demonstrated that those who interacted with companion pet robots showed significantly better outcomes than those who did not. Observed benefits included more stable blood pressure and heart rate, reduced fall risk, shorter hospital stays, and higher likelihood of discharge to home. The robots also contributed to reduced confusion and improved emotional well-being during hospitalization.

Expanding Use in Pediatric Care

While research in children is more limited, early findings show promising applications, particularly in behavioral and clinical settings

A 2025 qualitative study conducted in Sweden with children aged 5–10 years diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) found that the Joy for All robotic cat helped reduce anxiety and sensory sensitivity in 6 out of 10 participants. The robot acted as a calming companion, enabling children to better tolerate dental procedures, such as sitting in the dental chair and allowing treatment without strong resistance.

Some children also used the robot as a coping tool or reward mechanism. Although responses varied by individual, most caregivers expressed interest in continued use, noting improvements in emotional comfort, learning engagement, and social interaction at home.

Positive Response in Thailand

Mr. Kongkiat Sakulchan, Managing Director of Suan Yai House Co., Ltd., stated that while companion pet robots are still relatively new in Thailand, they are gaining increasing acceptance—particularly among nursing homes, elderly care centers, and healthcare professionals.

“What we consistently observe is that once people experience the product firsthand, they quickly understand that this is not just a product, but a meaningful emotional support tool. It helps reduce feelings of loneliness and creates a sense of comfort, leading many organizations to begin integrating it into their care systems.”

The company also sees potential for expansion into pediatric care in Thailand, especially for children undergoing long-term medical treatment, such as cancer patients, who often face emotional stress and isolation. Companion pet robots can provide comfort and companionship during these challenging periods.

Ultimately, these findings reinforce the role of companion pet robots such as Joy for All as a valuable complementary tool in improving quality of life for patients in Thailand—supporting emotional well-being alongside traditional care approaches.
